Casualty

I've had this MacBook Pro for a few years and after getting my new 13" MacBook Pro, this computer went into semi-retirement. I had recently come up with a way to utilize this computer again as it's still a decent computer. After a couple days of cleaning it up and getting ready for some more use...the N key came off. Now I cannot get it back on. Looks like it's time to put this on desk duty with an external keyboard. It's been done before...

Expirement time!

I tend to have a lot of old computers sitting around because I go through computers a lot and I got my first computer when I was 12. It's enough to drive my wife crazy because I don't get rid of them. Well I came up with a way to repurpose one computer and experiment at the same time.
I've talked multiple times about the Opera Web Browser/Web Server. Right now I just have been keeping Opera open while I'm at work, so basically M-F from 8-5. It's a basic web page with a couple links and sure enough, I've gotten clicks from that webpage. So now, I'm going to launch a web page and host it on the Opera Web Server and on that server alone to see it how it handles that. This week I'll post the details and the link.

Upgrade Pt. 2

So as you know from reading this blog, previously I discussed my USB hub and how I was running out of room and that I needed a desktop rather than using my laptop. Well it's finally to that point. My MacBook Pro which has done all the work on the sites/video thus far is two years old now and starting to show it's age. So yesterday, I took delivery of my new 24" iMac. So far I've only been able to edit one video on it, but it goes much quicker than my laptop did. Plus I was hooking my laptop up to a 19" monitor so I have much more screen real estate to work with now too. Overall I am excited about how this will increase my productivity.
We did get a little filming done last night, but not filming on the road trip has really thrown the schedule off and I am behind in work. I'm also working on re-writing the website from scratch with Asti. I've always known it's needed work, but now I have some spare time to actually try and accomplish something. And after WYRD gets re-done, it's on to YRS, then I can work on some of the new sites I've sorely been wanting to work on. Not enough hours in the day I'm afraid.

A hub too small

Apparently I have a lot to say about my little office in my basement. My primary work computer is my MacBook Pro. It only has 2 USB ports on it and one is for some unknown reason not working. Well I have a USB hub for obvious reasons. I have a keyboard, a mouse, my iPhone charger, printer, and two external hard drives. Well that leaves just one open spot. It's usually taken up by either the Flip Video camera or my still camera's memory card reader. This makes it impossible if I want to say edit photos and video(not uncommon). Or say I need to transfer something via a flash drive. I never thought I'd need this many ports, but apparently my USB is the place to be. I think it's time for a desktop replacement.
